Ask a questionCanada’s carbon tax is a fee on fossil fuels such as petrol (or gasoline) and heating fuels. It is designed to make polluting more expensive and to encourage Canadians to use cleaner energy alternatives.
The carbon tax is currently set at CA$ 80 per tonne of CO2.
The carbon tax began at $20 per tonne of CO2 in 2019 and has quickly increased ever since. It is set to increase annually until it reaches $170 per tonne in 2030, allowing Canadians to adapt to the increasing rate.
The money collected from the carbon tax is refunded to individuals and families via the Canada Carbon Rebate to offset the increased tax costs.
Similarly, some industries, such as agriculture and manufacturing, receive partial or full exemptions from the carbon tax to maintain their competitiveness in the global market.
Tax Natives is an international tax network that connects Explorers (taxpayer clients) with Natives (qualified and regulated tax advisers) from one jurisdiction to another.
