Greece is a member of both the European Union (EU) and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). This Mediterranean parliamentary republic is bordered by Bulgaria, the Republic of North Macedonia, Albania and Turkey. Its coastline runs along the Mediterranean and the Aegean Seas.
After gaining independence from the Ottoman Empire in the early 19th Century, Greece gradually acquired nearby islands and territories. Now, with Athens as its capital, its official language as Greek, and the euro as its official currency, Greece is made up of 332 municipalities within 13 regions.
In 2011 Greece introduced their Kallikratis programme designed to restructure the decentralised administration and introduce measures to address the financial crisis. It sought to boost the financial autonomy of local authorities and give them a greater role in devising and implementing policy.

Each Tax Native has to accept a question from an Explorer before a conversation can begin. Once the Tax Native has accepted your question, a quote will be submitted for approval through the messaging portal.
