Ask a questionCanada Import Tax is the duty and taxes levied on goods brought into the country. It is made up of two components: import duty and Goods and Service Tax (GST)
Import duty is a tariff on specific goods imported into Canada. The rate varies depending on the type of item and the country of origin.
GST is a general sales tax applied in Canada at a flat rate of 5%. It can be combined with provincial sales tax in some provinces and applies to the total value of imported goods, including import duty.
To streamline border crossings, Canada waives import duties and taxes on most goods valued at CA$20 or less (excluding alcohol and tobacco). This applies to commercially purchased items like clothes, electronics, and souvenirs.
Gifts from family members and friends who live abroad can also be exempted up to CA$60 (excluding alcohol and tobacco).
Tax Natives is an international tax network that connects Explorers (taxpayer clients) with Natives (qualified and regulated tax advisers) from one jurisdiction to another.
